Online Cultural Awareness and Respect in Midwifery Education:
Webinar Format

This course combines a series of webinars on the topics of cultural sensitivity and midwifery education. We planned these webinar sessions with our Grand Challenge Coordinator, Sumayya Sulaiman, on the first anniversary of the passing of our Grand Challenge co-founder, Claudia Booker, and invited friend and co-founder Jennie Joseph to discuss the ways Cultural Awareness and Respect can look while providing midwifery education and clinical precepting. In addition, we invited our past Grand Challenge Coordinator, Rachel Williams Myers, and midwives who have been the recipient of Claudia Booker Memorial Midwife Scholarships, to share insight from the time they were midwifery students in apprenticeships. Finally, Sumayya interviewed a few of the staff of Mercy In Action College of Midwifery to find out what we are doing to advocate for cultural respect in clinical placements. This course finishes with a self-assessment to assist midwife preceptors in identifying areas in which they might improve the quality of their interactions with culturally diverse populations of both students and clients.
