Every midwife should regularly refresh knowledge of a select formulary of drugs used in midwifery care, and practice the skills needed to safely use these drugs to protect the health and safety of mothers and babies in out-of-hospital settings. Midwives should also be aware of the issues regarding drug use by their clients, and updated best practice for determining risks in pregnancy and lactation.
